STERLING – A Sterling man involved in a March 18 fight in Rock Falls in which another man was stabbed was arrested Wednesday, and police are looking for help finding another suspect, they said in a news release.

Mark A. Chavez, 29, was arrested about 10 a.m. at his home. He is charged with aggravated battery in a public place and mob action, both felonies, and criminal damage to property, a misdemeanor.

Police are looking for Angel J. Rosas, 28, the release said. According to SVM archives, he was living in Sterling a year ago.

Detective Sgt. Steven Hubbard said police are waiting for test results to determine who stabbed the Rock Falls man, whose name has not been released. Their evidence includes fingerprints from the knife and DNA, he said.

Chavez was in Whiteside County Jail Wednesday night. He has a preliminary hearing today.

Anyone with information bout Rosas is asked to call the Sterling Police Department at 815-632-6640 or the anonymous reward hotline, Whiteside County Crime Stoppers, at 815-625-7867.
