SPRINGFIELD – Local students will receive $500 to $2,500 for post-prom programs after taking part in an Illinois Department of Transportation competition.

Erie High School placed third and West Carroll High School in Savanna placed fourth in Region 3 of the 2012-13 Operation Teen Safe Driving program. The program encourages students to create an education campaign for their peers about the dangers of unsafe driving. Sandwich High School was the winner in the region.

Participating agencies and people include IDOT, the Illinois State Police, the Allstate Foundation, Ford Motor Co. Fund, and Secretary of State Jesse White.

Bill McGrath, Allstate Insurance regional sales leader, said as prom, graduation, and summer vacation draw near, it is the time to remind teens about distracted driving and safety.
