Lorena H. 'Rena' Greer

STERLING – Lorena H. “Rena” Greer, 92, of Sterling, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Good Neighbor Care of Sterling. She was employed as a secretary by Bi-County Special Education for 20 years.

Lorena was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Kentucky, the daughter of James and Caroline (Kendall) Simpson. She grew up in Cairo. She married Wardell Greer on Nov. 18, 1939, in Cairo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1978. Lorena was a member of First Baptist Church in Sterling.  

Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Keith) Schriner of Lanark and Rebecca (Michael) McBride of McKinney, Texas; one son, Stephen (Becky) Greer of Toledo, Ohio; one brother, J.R. (Anne) Simpson of Cairo; seven grandchildren, Nicholas (Shay) Papoccia of  Lakemoore, Matthew (Jennifer) Papoccia of Belvidere, Lyndsey (Kevin) Hamlin of Little Elm, Texas, Jamon (Dianna) McBride of Leeton, Australia, Shelbylynn (Charles) Adair of Blacksburg, Va., and Kathryn Greer and Jonathan Greer, both of Toledo; five great-grandchildren, Cora Pyse, Cecilia Papoccia, Brooklyn Papoccia, Molly Papoccia, and Landry Sue Hamlin; three nieces, Diane Papasifakis of Cairo, Judith (Danny) Poole of La Center, Ky., and Nancy Newton of Plano, Texas; and special friends, Mary Lou Maple and her family.

She also was preceded in death by a sister, Luella; one grandson, Christopher Greer; and two nephews, Phillip Simpson and Michael Merseal.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, and the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Sterling, with the Rev. John Kermott officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling is handling arrangements.

A memorial has been established to First Baptist Church.
