On April 9, the voters will be asked to vote for or against a proposed 1 percentage-point sales tax increase in Ogle County. In spite of what the liberal news media and the politicians tell us, we are still in a huge economic depression.
It’s difficult for most families and businesses to maintain a balanced budget in this economy, but they do. The school districts need to apply the same belt-tightening measures that everyone else is doing.
Currently, the portion of my real estate taxes allocated to the Polo schools is in excess of 53 percent. Enough is enough on taxation. I don’t believe in the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. Nor do I believe that my real estate taxes will decrease, as some have purported, if the sales tax increase is approved. A tax is a tax, and it doesn’t go away.
I urge the voters to vote no on the referendum to increase the sales tax in Ogle County.
