Blanton’s job is to do right by the citizens

Recently there has been much in the newspaper about the lack of cooperation between the two cities of Sterling and Rock Falls. That simply is not true, as pointed out recently by Sterling Mayor Skip Lee in a blog posting.

It is Rock Falls Mayor David Blanton’s job to do what he feels is right for the citizens of Rock Falls and provide that direction. There has already been a consolidation of sorts with the two fire departments, and the mayors meet more often now than in previous years.

There also is a thing called mutual cooperation or aid between the two police departments and other law enforcement agencies.

It also is a fact that when the city of Rock Falls built the new sewer plant, the city had it constructed in a manner that it could also accommodate the future needs of Sterling. In this case, the city of Sterling chose not to do so.

And so far, neither city has “lost its identity.”

Change is coming. But it has to be the right fit for both towns. Mayor Blanton’s door has always been open, and he listens.
