James L. Brown

DIXON – James L. Brown, 94, of Dixon, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in Dixon. He was a salesman for the Azar Nut Co. prior to his retirement.

He was born on June 21, 1918, in Menomonee, Mich., the son of William and Lillian (Murray) Brown. He married Patricia Anne Ward on July 4, 1942. She preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 1992. He married Lois Wolf on May 3, 1996, in Morrison. James served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include six daughters, Patricia Ann Fietz; Eileen Brown (Riordon); Kathleen (James) Hobein; Margaret (Robert) Hess; Lillian Hoyer; and Ruth Geisheimer; four stepsons, Danny (Cathy) Shroyer; Terry Shroyer; Rick (Teresa) Shroyer; and James Wolf; two stepdaughters, Marty Melendrez and Vickie (Scott) Wussow; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren and 17 step-great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by two brothers, William Brown and Thomas Brown; and three sons-in-law, Dennis Fietz; Stu Riordon and William Hoyer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and a memorial service at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of cremains will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.

A memorial has been established.
