Owner Roseann Donegan scans a pair of gloves Saturday as Donegan's Do-it-Best Hardware employee Donna Wallgren looks on. The Mount Morris store closed Saturday after 20 years in business.

MOUNT MORRIS – With the flick of a light switch and a turn of a key, a Mount Morris business closed Saturday after 20 years.

The decision to close Donegan’s Do-it-Best, 13 E. Main St., was not easy for owner Roseann Donegan, 53.

She and her late husband, Jim, bought the business from Robert G. Hough, whose family had owned it since 1910. The closure leaves the village without a hardware store.

“It has been tough,” Donegan said. “I have made a lot of friends while owning the store. I am going to miss running a store. I’ve appreciated all the business the people in Mount Morris have given me all these years.”

Donegan has applied for a job as a manager at a large retail chain in Cherry Valley, she said.
