Howard Carl Neese I

ERIE – Howard Carl Neese I, 90, of Erie, died Friday, March 29, 2013, at Heartland Health Care Center in Moline. He was an insurance agent with Country Companies for more than 37 years.

Carl was born July 9, 1922, in Pearl, the son of William Thomas Neese and Hazel Hall Neese. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving as a pilot.

He married E. Haroldine Crowder on July 30, 1944, in Pleasant Hill. She died Dec. 19, 1995. He then married Joy Raines Shepherd on Oct. 5, 1997 in Erie. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Erie.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Darsia Kimball and her husband, Ronald of Erie; son, Howard and his wife, Ranae of Fulton; stepdaughter, Pam Tiemann and her husband, Adam of Erie; stepson, William and his wife Charlotte of Fenton; two granddaughters; two stepgranddaughters; two stepgrandsons; one step-great-grandson; and two great-grandsons. He also is survived by one sister, Anna Beryl Turner; sisters-in-law, Neta Neese and Donna June and her husband, Thomas Hobbs; and brothers-in-law, Tommy Crowder and Wayne Yelton.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Lyndle and Lucille Neese; brother, Lowell Neese; sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Ed Hoover; brother-in-law, Cecil Turner; sisters-in-law, Jean Crowder, Gloria Yelton, and Bettye Capps; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, May and Harold Crowder.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., with an Erie Masonic Lodge service at 6:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Erie. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Dick Adams and Rev. Robert Bratcher, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.
