Candidate: ‘Many things could be better’

Published: Tuesday, April 2, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

Hello, my name is Kathleen (Kathy) Stone, and I’m running for mayor of my town, Lyndon.

About 4 years ago, I started attending village board meetings. I listened and saw many things that could be better. Because of that, I’d like the opportunity to lead and guide the business of the village for the benefit of the people of Lyndon.

I’ve been a friend and member of the Lyndon United Methodist Church for about 40 years. I spent 191/2 years serving as administrative council secretary for the church. During that time, my husband and I raised four children, two boys and two girls. All are successful in their jobs and careers.

I’ve owned and operated a business, Stone’s Tree Trimming, during and after our children were grown. We retired the business in 2010 so we could enjoy traveling to see our children and grandchildren.

I’ve been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 30 years, serving in the various stations and as Worthy Matron for 10 years.

If I become mayor, it’s rumored I will rehire Will Shaffer and rehire Les Williams as superintendent of water. Both rumors are far from the truth. Both areas have replacement workers. Will Shaffer has gone on with his life, and Les Williams is a trustee on the board, where he wishes to be. If anyone has a concern about me or what I’m thinking, ask me. I’d be very glad to tell you the truth.

Because of the signs advertising my candidacy, I felt it was necessary to let the residents of Lyndon know who I am and what I stand for – “Breaking Barriers and Building Futures.”

I would appreciate your vote and would be proud to serve all residents of Lyndon. Please vote on Tuesday, April 9.
