Pacers’ Granger out for rest of season

Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger will miss the remainder of the season to undergo surgery on his left knee. He played five games this season.


Assembly Hall project to begin next year

A $160 million renovation of Assembly Hall is expected to start in March 2014 and be completed by November 2016.

The seating capacity will be reduced from 17,200 to about 15,000, but air conditioning and suites will be added as part of the facelift.The most noticeable change will be an increase in student courtside seating.


Mets’ Santana hurt, likely done for season

The New York Mets say Johan Santana has injured his left shoulder again and likely will need surgery and miss the 2013 season, the second he’ll miss in 3 years.

Tigers demote closer prospect Rondon

The Detroit Tigers demoted hard-throwing 23-year-old right-hander Bruce Rondon to Triple-A Toledo.

The Tigers decided the 6-foot-3, 255-pound prospect needed more seasoning. Phil Coke, Octavio Dotel and Joaquin Benoit are expected to form a closer by committee.


Pistorius allowed to travel abroad

Oscar Pistorius was granted permission to travel abroad when a South African judge relaxed bail conditions imposed after the double-amputee was charged with murdering his girlfriend.


Sharp, Hossa ruled out for tonight

Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa both skated in noncontact jerseys Thursday, but both have been ruled out for tonight’s game against Anaheim.

Sharp has been out since March 6, and Hossa has missed the last three games. Both are recovering from upper-body injuries.

Flames trade Iginla to Pens, not Bruins

The Calgary Flames traded Jarome Iginla to Pittsburgh – not Boston, as orginially reported – late Wednesday night for a first-round pick in the 2013 draft, Kenneth Agostino and Ben Hanowski.

Earlier Thursday night, multiple outlets had reported Iginla was traded to the Bruins.

Iginla, 35, is in the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent July 1. He has nine goals and 13 assists in 31 games this season. In 1,219 career regular-season games in 16 seasons, all with Calgary, he has 525 goals and 570 assists.

Agostino, 20, plays for Yale, and Hanowski, 22, at St. Cloud State. Both are forwards.
