FFA members compete in ag mechanics event

SAVANNA – The West Carroll FFA Ag Mechanics team won the Section 1 Ag Mechanics Contest March 13 at West Carroll High School.

Ag mechanics participants take a written test and then complete a hands-on practical in each of the five mechanics areas. 

Varsity team scores were West Carroll, 393; Forreston High School, 289.5; Le-Win High School in Lena, 284; Eastland High School in Lanark, 275; and River Ridge High School in Hanover, 197.5.

Junior varsity team scores were West Carroll, 206; Forreston, 184; and Le-Win, 98.

Surveying winners were Brandon Anderson, 85 and Ashley Hunt, 81, both of West Carroll, and Alex Dambman, 59, of Eastland.

The top three power scores were Adam Spittler, 44, of Forreston; Glenn Hoffman, 42, of West Carroll; and Glen Popper, 38, of Eastland.

West Carroll team members Alex Handel and Dylan Williams tied with 97 points in the electricity category. Jordan McLane of River Ridge scored 94.

Top carpentry scores went to Brandon Smith, 79.5, of River Ridge; Jacob Ritchie of West Carroll and Joe McGinniss of Le-Win tied with 79 points.

Welding section winners were Janelle Dykstra, 90, of West Carroll; Kenzie Kaiser, 80 of Le-Win; and Colton Meyer 61, of Forreston.
