Erie-Prophetstown's dominance in the field was enough to trump Newman's excellence on the track at the Rosenberry Classic on Tuesday at the Westwood Sports Complex in Sterling.

The Panthers finished with 135 points, 12 more than the runner-up Comets. Bureau Valley (69), Fulton (40) and Riverdale (34) rounded out the top five squads in the event that serves as the Three Rivers Indoor Conference Meet.

Erie-Prophetstown held off Newman thanks in large part to four wins in the field. They came from Kyle Pannier in the pole vault (11 feet, 6 inches), Grant Ames in the high jump (5-11), Darius Owens in the long jump (20-2) and Ethan Oleson in the shot put (47-0).

The Panthers' 3,200 relay team of Josh Green, Braedon Bonnell, Lucas White and Jace Bonnell took first in 8 minutes, 52.7 seconds.

Leading the way for the Comets was senior speedster Nick Rude, who won the 60 (7.13) and 200 (23.77) dashes. He also teamed with Brady Rude, Maison Bittner and Nolan McGinn to take the 800 relay in 1:35.49.

Alex DeForest won the 400 in 54.25, while McGinn led the way in the triple jump by soaring 41 feet, 5 inches.

The Comets also won the 1,600 relay as DeForest, Micah Trancoso, Eathan Nash and McGinn were clocked in 3:42.72.

Leading the way for Bureau Valley were a pair of winners, Logan Hoffert and Ryan Taylor. Hoffert was clocked at 8.85 seconds to take the 60 hurdles, while Taylor won the 800 in 2:07.

The girls portion of the Rosenberry Classic will be held tonight at Westwood.
