DIXON – Gertrude May Cornils, 91, of Dixon, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. She worked as a sales clerk for Venier Jewelers, retiring in 1981.
Gertrude was born July 7, 1921, in Dixon, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Wechsler) Cornils. Before working at Venier’s, she worked as a seamstress in Chicago and at Prince Castle’s in Dixon. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon, where she volunteered and was active in the Ruth Circle. Gertrude enjoyed traveling both in America and abroad, sewing, and reading. She was an avid volunteer at the Reagan Boyhood Home and the American Red Cross.
Survivors include three nieces, Connie (Larry) Clayton of Harmon, Lois (Louis) Torick of Chicago, and Margaret “Peg” (Dr. Jack) Luke of Waterloo, Iowa; two nephews, Jerry (Louise) Ferguson of Dixon and Ray Cornils of Brunswick, Maine; one sister-in-law, Ruth Cornils; one great-niece, Lisa (Brad) Dyer of Monroe Center; two great-nephews, Andrew (Andrea) Ferguson of Dixon and Eric (Kelly Gronewald) Ferguson of Peoria; one great-great-niece, Alison Dyer; and one great-great-nephew, Easton Roux.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward Cornils and Robert Cornils; and one sister, Ruth Ferguson.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday and the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Janet Wittenmyer, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.
