28-year-old gets 6 years for punching girl

DIXON – A Dixon man was sentenced to 6 years in prison for hitting a 2-year-old so hard he perforated her bowel.

Eric L. Ellis, 28, pleaded guilty March 21 to aggravated battery to a child. As part of his plea deal, a domestic battery charge was dismissed.

Ellis told police he punched the girl in the abdomen Aug. 2 while he was baby-sitting. The girl was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where she underwent surgery.
