John J. Winters

DIXON – John J. Winters, 86, of Dixon, formerly of Rockford, passed away at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Frazier, Iowa, the son of Earl and Margaret (Castor) Winters. John lived most of his life in Rockford. He retired from Firestone and Eclipse. He was a member of the Venetian Club and SM & SF Club, both in Rockford.

Survivors include his children, Debra (Tom) Dowdy of Des Moines, Iowa, Joleen Winters of Huntersville, N.C., and Trina (Kevin) Tribley of Dixon; grandchildren, Sherry (John) Miller, Amanda (Chad) Pitts, Tyler Tribley, and Emily Tribley; great-grandchildren, Dakota and Madison Miller, and Austin, Colby, and Haley Pitts; siblings, Frank (Darlene) Winters and Clarence Winters, both of Rockford, and Gloria Siebken of Galesburg.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Gladys Hodges Jackson, Lily Davis, and Annabelle Larson; brothers-in-law, Bob Hodges and John Siebken; and very special friend, Virginia Covert.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sundberg Funeral Home, 215 N. Sixth St., Rockford, with the Rev. Dan Bentz, pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Dixon, officiating. 

A memorial will be established.
