Joanne M. Bennett

AMBOY – Joanne M. Bennett, 70, of Amboy, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon.

Joanne was born Jan. 30, 1943, in Amboy, the daughter of Leonard and Frieda (Steder) Leffelman.

She married Jessie Lee Bennett on June 22, 1973, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 2008.

She worked at Admiral in Dixon and was a waitress for many local restaurants, including Zimmers, Victory and Shari-Jo’s. She then worked as activities director for Mapleside Manor in Amboy and Rock Island Convalescent Center. Most recently, she worked for K & the 4 Sisters Variety Store in Higden, Ark.

Joanne enjoyed camping, playing bingo, crocheting and making loom rugs. She also enjoyed trips to the casino.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Hackbarth of Amboy; two brothers, Dave Leffelman of Amboy and Randy (Karen) Leffelman of Naperville; one sister-in-law, Jeannie Leffelman of Lostant; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews; and special friends Wilma and Tuffy, Marilynda and Dave and Brenda.

She also was preceded in death by her sister, Diane Nielsen, and her brother, Norman Leffelman.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by the funeral at 7 p.m., at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, with the Rev. Charles Jeanblanc officiating. Cremation rites will follow. Burial will be at a later date at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy.

A memorial has been established.
