Owen Van Horn did a fine job of quieting the Silver Streaks, but the hosts already led big in a 10-0, five-inning victory Friday at the Galesburg Invitational.

Galesburg took a 9-0 lead with eight runs in the second. Two of them were charged to Dixon (0-1) starter Cal Jarrett (0-1), six of them to reliever Alex Strum.

Van Horn took the ball in the third and held the Silver Streaks scoreless until a two-out walkoff single by Drew Diaz in the bottom of the fifth.

Diaz went 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and two walks. Carson Cheesman worked three innings to get the win and also went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Senior John Thomas had a pair of singles, going 2-for-3 for Dixon.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
