Father’s trial to be rescheduled

DIXON – The trial of a Dixon man charged with shaking his infant daughter and causing her death will be rescheduled.

Charles T. George, 35, has an April 4 pretrial conference; a new trial date will be set by then, Public Defender Bob Thompson said Thursday.

The May 13 date needed to be changed because a state witness was not available, Thompson said.

George is charged with two counts of aggravated battery of a child, aggravated domestic battery, and involuntary manslaughter.

Police say he shook 3-month-old Tamari on Sept. 17, 2010, and dropped her on the floor. She died 5 days later at a Rockford hospital.

The case was stalled for more than a year after prosecutors appealed a decision by Lee County Court Judge Ron Jacobson to not allow George’s confession to police to be used at trial.

Jacobson ruled that the confession was inadmissible because George made it after he “clearly and unequivocally” had asserted his right to remain silent.

The appellate court reversed Jacobson’s ruling in August.
