Former Dyl’s Deli has new image

Cochran’s Pub offers karaoke, ’80s night; live music also in the plans

STERLING – Cochran's Pub doesn't have just a new name, it's going to have a new identity, owner Dave Cochran says.

Cochran, 38, bought the former Dyl's Deli with his wife, Deanna, 36,.

They want the tavern, which always was "a beautiful bar," to be noteable for its friendly pub atmosphere. "Customers might walk in as strangers, but by the time they leave, we want to make sure we get to know them, and they get to know us," he said.

As a bartender for 9 years at Corner Tap in Rock Falls, Cochran never witnessed friction or fights because "if there were problems, we put it out right away," he said.

He plans to decorate the bar at 13464 Galt Road with jerseys and photos from local high school sports teams. He also wants to add three or four more TVs to the four already there.

Cochran's is intended to be a social place where folks can talk without shouting over music, he said.

That's not to say tunes aren't available.

Cochran has added karaoke, nad may be the only bar in rural Sterling where patrons have that option. He also plans to offer live entertainment once a month.

Mondays are ’80s night, when the music and prices hearken back to that righteous decade. Anheuser-Busch cans and bottles cost $1.50 that night.

He als will rent out the 2,400 square-foot space, as did former owner Dan Winstead.

Cochran's opened March 1. A grand opening is tentatively set for April 6.

Dave's a 1993 Rock Falls High School grad; Deanna graduated from Amboy High the year after.
