Drug dog finds $500,000 of opium at O'Hare airport

CHICAGO (AP) — A drug-sniffing dog helped agents find more than 30 pounds of opium worth nearly $500,000 at Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/Zc4dwm) the Customs and Border Protection dog named Shadow found the drugs on Monday. He's an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois. Federal officials say that Shadow alerted agents to four parcels from Laos. Two were headed to Wisconsin and two to Minnesota.

Authorities say two of the packages contained cloth soaked in opium and two had bags of woodchips, twigs and leaves that were soaked in opium.
