DIXON – Teachers will have to wait another day before they can vote on a new contract.
The Dixon Education Association postponed Monday’s vote 24 hours, until today at 3:30 p.m., said Dolph Ricks, union negotiator and Reagan Middle School teacher.
The Dixon School Board and teachers reached an agreement Wednesday that sent students back to school after a strike canceled 9 days of classes.
Ricks said there were some discrepancies and issues to resolve with the contract. “It took this weekend for it all to come together,” he said. “Unfortunately, that meant we had to postpone the meeting.”
The board still is scheduled to vote on the contract at its meeting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Reagan Middle School.
Sauk Valley Media filed a Freedom of Information Act request the day the agreement was reached seeking a copy of the contract. The district has said it will share information after the union ratifies the contract. It’s not clear how soon after the vote the district will make that information available.
Neither Superintendent Michael Juenger nor Assistant Superintendent Margo Empen were available for comment Monday evening.
