Truck driver represents himself in marijuana trial
BLOOMINGTON (AP) — A Florida pickup truck driver accused of trafficking 60 pounds of marijuana to Chicago is acting as his own attorney at his central Illinois trial.
The Pantagraph reports (http://bit.ly/16GyyL4) prosecutors say 58-year-old Charles Hamilton stashed the drugs in a spare fuel tank. State police stopped and arrested him in November 2011 north of Bloomington. His trial on felony drug charges started Monday, when he wore the same jeans and T-shirt that he was wearing during the stop.
Hamilton helped select the jury. During his opening statement Hamilton told jurors that he would show them "sufficient evidence to throw this case out." He plans to testify as the case continues.
