Has ‘solid working knowledge’

I am seeking election to the city clerk’s position in Rock Falls, for I have the time, the experience, and the skills to run an effective and professional clerk’s office.

As Rock Falls mayor, 1997-2005, I had the opportunity to work with five different city clerks, two of whom I appointed. Therefore, I have a solid working knowledge of the many duties, requirements, and expectations that a community requires from its city clerk.

Since I have retired from teaching 32 years in 2002, I have worked in a number of jobs.  These include 5 years as an adjunct instructor at Sauk Valley College; 3 years with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sauk Valley; and most recently as interim director of NICIL (Northwestern Illinois Center for Independent Living). Being retired allowed me to gain further experiences in managing time and meeting deadlines through those experiences.

Besides those jobs, I have been involved in a number of community organizations that have given me further opportunities to handle record keeping, financial issues, etc.  Those include the following: finance officer (3 years) for the Rock Falls American Legion; secretary (3 years) of the pastoral council at St. Mary’s Parish; board member and vice-president (3 years) of the Riverdale School District 14; secretary and board member (2 years) for the Rock River International Fellowship organization; secretary/treasurer (6 years) of the West Wolf Ridge Homeowners Association; secretary/treasurer and board member (6 years) of NICIL; and trustee (2 years) of the Rock Falls Public Library Board.

Each of those opportunities has increased my skills in managing records, reports and financial matters of those organizations. With many of those organizations, keeping accurate records is essential, as state and federal guidelines require the same. Filing timely reports, keeping personnel and insurance records, and managing state and federal grants are the skills that I have been using during the past 10 years. These skills are what is necessary and essential for an individual to be an effective city clerk.  

With the opportunities that I have had in the past 10 years, and before, as mayor and 1st Ward alderman of Rock Falls, I believe that I can continue the excellent performance of the Rock Falls city clerk’s office. My time availability, my experiences, and my skills make me the most qualified candidate for Rock Falls city clerk.
