Riley, Ottley named to Region IV 1st team

Sauk Valley Community College sophomores Jalen Riley and Daven Ottley were named to the Region IV Division I first team.

Riley was also on the all-tournament team, the leading vote-getter for all-region and is one of three players nominated for All-American honors.

YOUTH BASEBALL

Rock Falls tee-ball registration open

Tee-ball registration for the Coloma Township Park District opened Monday.

Boys and girls who will be 6 by Sept. 1 and not turn 9 until Aug. 1 can get registration forms at the district’s administrative office.

Play begins May 28, and entry is $33.

ROLLER DERBY

Derby Divas to hold fundraiser Sunday

The Midwest Derby Divas will hold a meet and greet fundraiser Sunday at the Rock Falls VFW.

The flat-track roller derby team is comprised of women from the Sauk Valley. The event is from 2-7 p.m. and includes music, raffles and food. For more information, call 815-590-0762 or email midwestderbydivas@gmail.com.

Gonzaga No. 1
in final AP poll

Gonzaga, the top seed in the NCAA tournament’s West Region, received 45 of the 65 first-place votes in the final AP Top 25 poll, released Monday.

Illinois, the No. 7 seed in the East, did not receive any votes, but five other Big Ten teams made the top 25, four in the top 10. Indiana is No. 4 and the top seed in the East. Ohio State (No. 7), Michigan (9), Michigan State (10) and Wisconsin (22) round out the ranked Big Ten teams.

Woods, Vonn confirm relationship

Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn released simultaneous statements Monday – along with a picture of themselves together – to confirm their relationship.

Rumors swirled in February after Woods sent his private jet to fly Vonn home to Vail, Colo. after the skier suffered a major knee injury at the Alpine World Championships in Austria.

Paternity suit against Jordan dismissed

A paternity suit against Michael Jordan has been dismissed, according to a report by TMZ.com.

Pamela Smith, who brought the suit against Jordan in Georgia claiming he was the father of her 16-year-old son and recently requested a DNA test, filed legal documents to dismiss the case, according to the report.

Former Sooner QB killed in plane crash

Former University of Oklahoma quarterback Steven Davis was one of two passengers killed when a twin-engine jet crashed in South Bend, Ind.

Davis, 60, led the Sooners to two national titles in the 1970s. He and the deceased pilot, his close friend, Wesley Caves, were both from Tulsa, Okla.
