PORT ISABEL, Texas – Roy Kreider Woods II was born Feb. 6, 1936, in Sterling. He died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at his home in Port Isabel.

His parents were R. Kreider Woods and Dorothy (Heiss) Woods. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1953. He attended the University of Illinois, and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He served for 4 years with Navy Air, flying and traveling for the Navy. He worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. for more than 30 years as an industrial engineer, and was one of the creators of the computer department. He retired in 1992 as a systems analyst.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie Bowron from Batavia; their children, Karleen Woods (Gary) Sucher of Omaha, Neb., Roy K. “R.K.” (Jill) Woods III of Salinas, Calif., and Karen Woods (Tedd Meurer) Mercado of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; grandchildren, Troy Sucher, Tiffany Sucher, Tonya Sucher, Somyr Woods-Mercado, and Addison Woods; and great-grandchild, Lyla Sucher. Also surviving are his brother, David (Cheryl) Woods; and several nieces and nephews.

Always with an adventurous spirit, which included skydiving and traveling “around the world,” he left his family and friends and his idea of paradise, living on an island, surrounded by water.

Condolences may be sent to the Bonnie Woods Family, 33840 S. Garcia St., No. 199, Long Island Village, Lot 251, Port Isabel, TX 78578.

Memory contributions may be sent to his local food bank, St. Stephen Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1074, Port Isabel, TX 78578.
