Business Bits: Liqour store building in Dixon

DIXON – Liqour 'N' Wine has applied for a demolition permit with the city, in hopes of building a retail liqour store on North Galena Avenue.

The liqour chain has three other locations, including one in Rochelle. Plans call a new building at the former Premier Car Wash site, 840 N. Galena Ave., with space for the liqour store and three other potential businesses.

Building plans are being finalized, City Engineer Shawn Ortgiesen said, so nothing is final. The owner of Liqour 'N' Wine did not return emails seeking comment.

Dixon Main Street looking at a move?

DIXON – It's still up for discussion, but Dixon Main Street is looking into moving its office from 115 S. Hennepin Ave. to the second floor of Fifth Third Bank, 102 S. Galena Ave, said Josh Albrecht, executive director.

Albrecht is talking with other nonprofit organizations to see if they would be interested in moving in together, and creating a hub for the organizations to share resources.

Restaurateur now also marina operator

CLINTON, Iowa – Sterling businessman Matt Prescott has won the contract to operate this Mississippi River city's marina, where he recently opened a Candlelight Inn restaurant.

He takes over May 1.

Resale shop opening in Oregon

OREGON – A new for-profit thrift store will open in mid-April in the building Angel Treasures thrift store is leaving.

The tentatively named Rock River Resale, 404 W. Washington St., will be owned by Amanda Williams and Scott Kozielec, who also will give a percentage of their proceeds to an Oregon charity, Williams said.

They will sell antiques and collectibles at thrift store prices, she said. They will accept unwanted items as donations, but the store is not a consignment store, she said.

Williams, 30, and Kozielec, 25, are from St. Charles and have lived in Oregon more than a year.

They plan an April 20 grand opening, with giveaways. The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Call 630-453-1624 for more information.

Financial services branch opening in Morrison

MORRISON – First Wealth Financial Group of Clinton, Iowa, opened a branch at 219 E. Main St., Suite A on Friday.

Joe Mills, 27, a 2004 Morrison High School graduate, will provide retirement planning, investment services and life insurance policies from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Mills earned a bachelor's in marketing from Northern Illinois University in 2008. He and his wife, Danielle, have a 1-year-old daughter, Ivy.

SwedishAmerican Medical Group opens new clinic in Rochelle

ROCHELLE – SwedishAmerican Medical Group is opening a primary care clinic at 380 E. state Route 38 on April 8, the organization said in a news release.

Dr. Luc Tchapnda, who previously practiced in Rock Falls, has a special interest in diabetes management and children's health, and he performs a number of non-invasive office procedures such as suturing, splinting and skin biopsies.
