Rae J. Kersten

ASHTON – Rae J. Kersten, 73, of Ashton, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Friday, March 15, 2013.

He was born June 15, 1939, in Dixon, the son of the late Raymond and Rogene (Krug) Kersten. He was a 1957 graduate of Ashton High School, and he served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, 1962 to 1964.

He worked for Lee F.S. “Black Hawk.” He was the Bradford Township road commissioner for 23 years and a trustee for the Ashton Fire Department. He farmed the family farm from 1964 to 1993.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
