ASHTON – Rae J. Kersten, 73, of Ashton, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Friday, March 15, 2013.

He was born June 15, 1939, in Dixon, the son of the late Raymond and Rogene (Krug) Kersten. He was a 1957 graduate of Ashton High School, and he served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, 1962 to 1964.

He worked for Lee F.S. “Black Hawk.” He was the Bradford Township road commissioner for 23 years and a trustee for the Ashton Fire Department. He farmed the family farm from 1964 to 1993.

He was loved by so many and will be missed.

His survivors include his loving wife, Sherryl; his children, Michelle Ramirez of Ashton, Lori Talley of Amboy and Mike Kersten of Ashton; and his precious grandchildren, Kristin, Alexis, Jamey and Nathaniel.

He also was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Kersten.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Beverage Lyons Family Funeral Home, 601 Richardson Ave. in Ashton. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ashton Cemetery.
