Downtown project on agenda for Dixon council

So, too, is $31,400 for planning and leadership training

DIXON – The City Council is set to put two infrastructure projects in motion at tonight’s meeting.

The first involves advertising for an engineering firm for downtown streetscaping and the second is advertising for services for heating and air conditioning improvements at City Hall.

A streetscaping project tabbed for more of the city’s downtown streets would be similar to what’s been done with downtown Hennepin Avenue. The project likely will be funded by tax increment financing.

Also, the City Council will vote to finalize a strategic plan and leadership training with Naperville company Sikich, for $31,400.

The plan will take a holistic look at the city’s government and help officials develop a strategic plan to achieve long-term goals.

After Rita Crundwell stole nearly $54 million in city funds, its operating funds plummeted to more than $19 million in the red with several infrastructure projects left to tackle.

The idea behind the strategic plan is that the city needs to set a course before it starts rebuilding.

The council meets at 6:30 p.m. today at City Hall, 121 W. Second St.
