Court Call for Monday, March 18, 2013



DEFAMATION LAWSUIT: Former Dixon School District varsity boys basketball coach and athletic director Steve Sandholm filed a defamation lawsuit in March 2008 against nine players’ parents; NRG Media, parent company of local radio station WIXN; and the station’s general manager. It was dismissed July 2009, and reinstated in January by the state Supreme Court. 

On the docket: Conference call.


BANK FRAUD CASE: Lyle J. Spaulding, 44, of Sterling; charged with eight counts of bank fraud. Federal prosecutors say Spaulding, while working for three Whiteside County banks, lent money to family members for his own use and took kickbacks. 

On the docket: Change of plea. 



SEX ABUSE CASE: Nikos M. Kastrinsios, 41, of Dixon; charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and possession of child pornography. Police say that Kastrinsios had oral sex with a boy younger than 17 in December 2010 and that a search of his home turned up child pornography.

On the docket: Motion hearing.  


BURGLARY CASE: Travis S. Broderick, 18, of Amboy; charged with four counts of burglary and one count of misdemeanor resisting. Police say he and several others broke into a number of vehicles in Dixon in January. 

He also is charged with residential burglary and theft; police say he broke into an Amboy home in January and stole money and jewelry.

On the docket: Status hearings in both cases.

HOME INVASION/RAPE CASE: Jeffrey K. Mischler, 28, of Hinckley; charged with home invasion and criminal sexual assault. 

Police say Mischler broke into a Dixon woman’s house on May 26, 2011, and raped her while she was passed out after a night of drinking.

HEROIN/DRUG CONSPIRACY CASE: Jeralyn Jean Allen, 51, Angella Arlene Schultheis, 32, and Heather Ann Wilcox, 29; Allen is charged with criminal drug conspiracy, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Schultheis is charged with criminal drug conspiracy and possession of a controlled substance. Wilcox is charged with possession of a controlled substance.

According to booking records, Allen’s charges involve cocaine, heroin and the opioid Hydromorphone. Schultheis’ involves cocaine.

On the docket: Preliminary hearings for all three.


SEX ABUSE/SEX ASSAULT CASE: Douglas P. Delhotal, 54, of Dixon; charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault and six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Police say he molested a 13-year-old girl several times between November 2009 and January 2010.

On the docket: Pretrial conference.

CHILD BATTERY CASE: Eric L. Ellis, 28, of Dixon; charged with aggravated battery of a child and aggravated domestic battery. Police say Ellis punched a 2-year-old girl in the stomach on Aug. 2. The child had to have surgery.

On the docket: Plea.

SEX ASSAULT CASE: Russell A. Frey, 36, of Dixon; charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault. Police say Frey had sex with a 12-year-old girl in late January 2012 and again in February 2012 at his house.

On the docket: Pretrial conference.

BATTERY/INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER CASE: Charles T. George, 35, of Dixon; charged with two counts of aggravated battery of a child, aggravated domestic battery, and involuntary manslaughter. Police say George shook his 3-month-old daughter, Tamari, in September 2010. The girl died several days later from blunt-force trauma to the head.

ROBBERY/BATTERY CASE: Patrick M. Linscott, 23, of Dixon; charged with robbery and aggravated battery. Co-defendants Samantha J. Thomas, 19, and Karl E. Ketchum III, 17, both of Dixon, are charged with aggravated robbery, robbery, and aggravated battery. 

Police say the three and one other man battered a drug dealer and hit him with a car on Aug. 31.

SEX ABUSE CASE: George M. Munnich, 55, of Ashton; charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Prosecutors say Munnich fondled a girl younger than 18 in December 2009. 

On the docket: Pretrial conference. 

MARIJUANA CASE: Rudolph Sikkelerus, 59, of Elmwood Park; charged with unlawful production of marijuana plants and possession of between 30 and 500 grams of marijuana. Police say they found 45 plants and 35.8 grams of marijuana on his property and inside his trailer at Woodhaven Lakes in Sublette in September.

MURDER CASE: Nicholas T. Sheley, 33, of Sterling; charged with 15  counts of first-degree murder in the 2008 deaths of Brock Branson, 29; his fiance Kilynna Blake, 20; her 2-year-old son Dayan; and Kenneth Ulve, 25, all of Rock Falls. 

He already is serving life without parole for the deaths of an elderly Sterling farmer and a 65-year-old Galesburg man.
