Contract with teachers to be made public

SVM request no longer requires extension, it says

DIXON — The school district says it no longer needs a 5-day extension to provide a copy of the contract that both the teachers union and school board are expected to ratify next week.

The district will provide documents to Sauk Valley Media by Wednesday, the district’s Freedom of Information Act officer said Friday.

A tentative agreement was reached on the contract Wednesday, bringing teachers and students back to school after a strike that began Feb. 28.

Initially, the district asked for 5 additional days beyond the 5 days it had to respond to SVM’s request. SVM made the request Wednesday.

The district said it needed the extra 5 days to respond because language in the contract still was being finalized.

On Thursday, school administration and teachers spent hours finalizing the contract.

Dixon Education Association members will vote to ratify the deal at 3 p.m. Monday, and the school board will vote on the contract during a meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reagan Middle School.
