‘Clueless’ Gov. Quinn should learn from JFK

Published: Friday, March 22, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

Recently, Gov. Pat Quinn was quoted on a local news break from NBC’s The Today Show as stating, “If I get my way, $25 million will be restored to mental health services.” The Rosecrance facility was also mentioned in that broadcast.

Many believe that this governor is simply posturing for the 2014 primary election. More than 30 percent has been cut from human services spending during his tenure of low-quality, unethical leadership. When he’s not doing a hatchet job on those who need mental health services, he’s busy threatening deep cuts to the educational system.

Further, Quinn is clueless as to the resolution of fiscal issues currently plaguing Illinois, as well as the needs of our mental health system.

Quinn would do well to review an Associated Press article about the last fiscally responsible Democratic president, John F. Kennedy.

On Jan. 17, 1963, JFK proposed a $98.8 billion budget geared to tax cuts he said would spark America to full employment, production and purchasing power. The public debt was $315.6 billion.

Unfortunately, Quinn and his cronies aren’t that goal oriented.

How the Democratic Party has changed over the past 50 years.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
