Regional unemployment rates rise in January
In most counties, rates also up from previous year
STERLING – Post-holiday jobless rates were up as expected in the Sauk Valley in January, according to statistics released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The unemployment rates in Lee, Whiteside, Ogle, Carroll and Bureau counties all were higher in January than they were in December. In all but Ogle County, they were higher than they were in January 2012.
In Whiteside County the unemployment rate was 11.0 percent, up from 9.1 percent in December and up from 10.9 percent in January 2012.
