In real world, non-performers lose their jobs

Dixon High School did not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2012. Under No Child Left Behind, a school makes AYP if it achieves the minimum levels of improvement determined by the state of Illinois in terms of student performance and other accountability measures. 

Dixon’s school teachers are highly paid versus other districts, in fact, in the top percentile. I suspect overall, population wise, Dixon teachers are part of the very small 1 percent in Dixon.

In the real world (corporate environment), employees who don’t meet performance expectations are terminated. With thousands of newly graduated teachers available, I believe it’s time to replace the Dixon teachers.

Dixon teachers insist that it’s not the money but the kids. That, again, is not correct, or those kids would have better grades. New, fresh, energetic teachers would bring not only a new vision to Dixon education but a desire to work and assure their students’ achievement.

I, for one, am behind the board 110 percent, as are many others. The board fully understands that the state is preparing to push the teachers retirement programs down to the local level. Dixon’s board realizes that and is making adjustments now.

My final question is, How many of the dissenting parents against the board routinely attend their parent-teacher conferences?
