DIXON – Cleora (Wadsworth) Walters, 92, of Dixon, entered her heavenly home Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at her home, surrounded by family.

She was a company clerk for the Dixon Telegraph; worked at the Green River Ordnance Plant in Amboy; was “Rosie the Riveter” in Chicago during World War II; and was a telephone operator for Centel in Dixon, before retiring.

Cleora was born July 25, 1920, in Dixon, the only child of Harrison and Edna (Feldkirchner) Wadsworth. She married Robert E. Walters on Dec. 31, 1946, in Dixon.  He preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1979. After high school, she attended Coppins Business School in Dixon. 

Cleora loved to travel to Florida and New York to visit family for the annual girls’ weekends. She also enjoyed playing bridge, and she was an avid volunteer in the community. Cleora was an actress at heart and, in her youth, used her elocution lessons to perform various monologues and readings for local organizations. Cleora was the last surviving charter member of Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church in Dixon. She had a special pet, Sierra.

Survivors include six daughters, Cynthia Quick of Clermont, Fla., Patricia Walters of Dixon, Suzanne (Ron) Nunn of Stony Brook, N.Y., Marcia (Bruce) Twaddell of Lake Wales, Fla., Mary (Mark) McWethy of Oregon, and Jackie (Art) Schmidt of Dixon; 11 grandchildren, Don Quick, Robyn O’Keefe, and Jeremy, Chelsea, and Brad Nunn, Matthew Ludens, Angela Smith, and Amber and Ryan McWethy, Jennifer Schmidt, and Kayla Bellows; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her only son, Steven H. Walters.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Tom Wadsworth officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

A memorial has been established to Rock River Bible Camp.
