DOWNERS GROVE (AP) – The Illinois Tollway says it plans to spend $922 million on capital improvement projects this year, twice the amount it spent in 2012.

Projects include the start of the $2.2 billion rebuilding and widening of part of Interstate 90, including a new $61 million interchange at Illinois Route 47.

The Tollway also will begin construction of new ramps at the interchange of Interstates 294 and 57.

The Tollway will break ground on the $3.4 billion Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project and complete repair and maintenance work on other parts of the system.

Public open houses will be held March 12 at the Huntley Village Hall and March 14 at the Belvidere Oasis. Meetings will include informational displays, construction schedules and a question-and-answer session.

Construction work is scheduled to begin this spring.
