Dennis J. Burgess

DIXON – Dennis J. Burgess, 61, of Dixon, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home. He farmed for 27 years in the Dixon area, as co-partner of B&B Farms, which produced feeder cattle and hogs. He then worked for IGOR in Tinley Park for 11 years, before his retirement.

Dennis was born Jan. 14, 1952, in Dixon, the son of Arthur and Lois (Thrasher) Burgess. He married Karen S. Blum on July 28, 1973, in Dixon. He graduated from Amboy High School and DeVry Technical School in Chicago, graduating with an associate degree in electronics. Dennis was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Walton and served as a director of the Livestock Feeders Association and a director of the University of Illinois Extension.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Burgess of Dixon; one son, Brian (Jennifer) Burgess of Naperville; one daughter, Barbara (Ruben) Carter of San Diego; his parents, Arthur and Lois Burgess of Harmon; one sister, Donna Gonzalez of Sterling; four brothers, John (Judy) Burgess, Dwight (Mary) Burgess, and David Burgess, all of Harmon, and Jeff Burgess of Sterling; one sister-in-law, Barbara Miller of Dixon; and two grandchildren, Gregory and Elizabeth Burgess.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
