6-month-old shot in Chicago dies of wounds

CHICAGO (AP) — The Cook County Medical Examiner's office says a 6-month-old girl shot with her father has died of her wounds.

A gunman shot Jonylah Watkins and her father as he was changing her diaper in a parked minivan on Monday afternoon.

The medical examiner's office says Jonylah died around 6 a.m. Tuesday. She had been shot five times.

Her father, Jonathan Watkins, remains in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Chicago police are searching for the gunman and scouring the area for any security camera footage that might have captured the suspect's vehicle fleeing.

Witnesses described it as a blue conversion van.

The shooting took place around 1 p.m. Monday in the Woodlawn area of Chicago's South Side.
