Lumzy finishes sixth at nationals
Dixon High School graduate Bryce Lumzy, a senior at Upper Iowa University, finished sixth at 157 pounds in the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships that concluded Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.
Lumzy (35-16) won two bouts before dropping a 3-1 decision to the eventual champion, Cory Dauphin of Central Oklahoma, in the semifinals. Lumzy then dropped two consolation bracket bouts.
Rock Falls, Newman to return to State Farm
Both Rock Falls basketball teams and the Newman girls team will be in the 1A fields for the 2013 State Farm Holiday Classic, announced Monday.
The 35th installment of the event will take place Dec. 26-28 and 30 in Bloomington and Normal.
Locals do well at state tournament
Brad Gross of Dixon took first and Landen Vesley of Amboy third at the IKWF state championships Saturday in Rockford.
Gross won the title in the 108-pound novice division. Vesley took third in the 138-pound novice division. Both grapplers represented the Sauk Valley Wrestling Club of Sterling.
Conservation officer applicants sought
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking conservation police officer trainee applicants. The department is not currently hiring the position, but is offering the test to develop an eligibility list.

Ravens trade Boldin to 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers acquired wide receiver Anquan Boldin from the Baltimore Ravens for a sixth-round draft pick.
Boldin, who had six catches for 104 yards and a touchdown in the Ravens’ 34-31 Super Bowl victory over the 49ers, must pass a physical to complete the deal.
Gonzaga still No. 1 in latest AP poll
Gonzaga, which won the West Coast Conference tournament championship 65-51 over St. Mary’s on Monday, will head into Selection Sunday as the nation’s No. 1 team.
Earlier in the day, the Bulldogs remained at the top of the Associated Press poll for the second straight week.

Cavs’ Irving to miss 3 to 4 weeks
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving is expected to miss 3 to 4 weeks with a sprained left shoulder.
Finger and knee injuries have cost Irving 14 games in this, his second season, during which he is averaging 23.2 points, 5.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.
