MORRISON – Morrison Junior High and High School are hosting the junior high music contest today at the high school gym, 643 Genesee Ave.

Schools represented are Morrison Junior High, Fulton Middle School, Riverdale Middle School of Port Byron, Rock Falls Middle School, and Erie Middle School.

Bands and choirs will perform selections for a panel of judges.

In addition to the band and choir performances, students perform solos and ensembles throughout the day at the Morrison Junior High.

Each event is evaluated against a set standard and is rated on a scale of 1 to 3 with 1 being excellent, 2 good, and 3 fair. Each judge selected one solo or ensemble event considered to be the best of the day. The “Best of Day” events perform at an Honor’s Recital at 3:30 p.m. at the high school.

The Morrison Junior High Band will play at 8:25 a.m. at MHS. Their songs are “March of the Freemen” by Jerry Nowak, “Tribal War Chant” by Michael Story and “American Riversongs” by Pierre La Plante. The MJHS Sixth grade choir performs at 10:40 a.m. and the seventh- and eighth-grade choir will perform at 11:40 a.m.

Instrumental music is taught by David Bean and vocal music is taught by Cynthia Perrizo.
