Senior Alex Leaf, 18, of Rock Falls, is Rock Falls High School’s February Student of the Month. He is the son of Doug and Chrissy Leaf of Rock Falls; his sister is Raechelle Henkel, 25 of Genoa, and his brothers are Rian Nailor, 23, a student at Eureka College, and Dylan Leaf, 12, a sixth-grader at East Coloma School.

Favorite class: Psychology. I like learning how the brain functions and why people think the way they do.

Top teacher: Mark Truesdell, psychology. He teaches it more like a college class. He makes you work for it. And it prepares you for the future.

Extracurriculars: Football, basketball and track; ACE (Athletes Committing to Excellence) Club; and BLAST (Bigs & Littles Are Special Together).

After graduation: I haven’t made a final decision yet. It’s between playing football somewhere or going to Sauk Valley Community College for the first 2 years.

Paycheck: During the summer, I detassel. And in the fall, I sell concessions and referee for Northern Illinois Youth Tackle Football.

Best friends: Keaton Sprier, Jace Anderson (my cousin) and Austin Babcock. We’ve all grown up together and played sports together, too.

Favorite singer: Kendrick Lamar.

Favorite actor: Mark Wahlberg.

Favorite movie: “Never Back Down.”

Favorite TV show: “Southland.”

Hobbies: Weightlifting, playing PlayStation 3, and hanging out with my girlfriend and my friends.

Favorite outdoor activity: Riding four-wheelers.

Favorite food: Mashed potatoes with butter.

Favorite place to shop: Scheels All Sports.

Favorite website: YouTube.

Biggest fear: Flying. I am not a fan of heights.

Pet peeve: People who smack their lips when they chew their food.

Haunts: Buffalo Wild Wings in Sterling, JW’s 3rd Base in Rock Falls, or the weight room at the football field.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Friendly. I’m pretty laid-back and easy to get along with. I’m outgoing and not afraid to strike up a conversation with someone I barely know.

Personal trivia: I really like to cook.

Dream job: President of the United States, just to see how the lifestyle is and everything that comes along with that.

Trading places: LeBron James, just to be able to live the life of an NBA millionaire for a day.

Trading spaces: Las Vegas, just to say I was there and experienced it.

Read this: “Basketball Junkie: A Memoir” by Chris Herren. It’s about his basketball career and his comeback from drug addiction. He actually came to our school and spoke, and I actually got to meet him.

What would you do if you had $100,000? Buy a brand-new car and use the rest to pay for college.

What do you wish your high school offered? Men’s co-ed volleyball. I think we’d do well.

What’s a tip you would give freshmen for making high school life easier? Push yourself as far as taking advanced classes, but don’t overwhelm yourself. Have some fun and take some classes you want, too. Enjoy high school, because it goes by quickly.

Shout out to: My girlfriend, Bree Celletti, a senior at Rock Falls High School.
