Celebrate with Irish Saturday

Published: Friday, March 15, 2013 1:15 a.m. CDT

As I sit down to write this letter of invite, I give thought to what it takes to be Irish. The Irish people have a very rich history.

The early Irish themselves have ancestry roots made up of the Celts, Vikings, Normans, English, Planters, Spaniards and French. With this in mind, I get an understanding that the Irish are truly made up of some of the great people of history.

St. Patrick’s Day is a wonderful celebration largely in part because of one of the original melting pots of earth, Ireland. The Irish are made up of the best of our ancestry. For those naysayers and glass-half-empty folks who walk among us, we, the Irish, invite you to come join us for a celebration unlike any other – a celebration of being Irish and Irish at heart.

Witness our warmth and hospitality, our dedication to God and family. Come take part in something that will fill you with the goodness that centuries of being Irish only can give. Come and enjoy with the Rock River Valley Shamrock Club the culture of the Irish.

On Saturday, you can witness the Sauk Valley’s largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade starting at 3 p.m. and winding its way through the streets of Dixon. Our destination is the Knights of Columbus Hall, where you will find the celebration of the Irish with food, drink and song.

The only thing we ask for the admission to the grandness of parties is a canned food item to be given to the local food pantry or a monetary donation at the door. The Knights are providing the drink and meal of the Irish for a minimal price. The Rock River Valley Shamrock Club hopes to see you on Saturday.

As centuries have taught us, if you’re lucky enough to be Irish, you’re lucky enough.

Peace to you and your family.
