Four locals named all-NIB-12 West

A pair of Dixon Dukes and two Sterling Golden Warriors were named to the Northern Illinois Big 12 West all-conference team, the league announced Friday.

Sterling senior Zach Rehmert and Dixon sophomore Cal Jarrett were both unanimous selections to the first team. LaSalle-Peru senior Jens Soderholm was named MVP.

Sterling junior Micah Miller and Dixon sophomore Laron Carr were both named honorable mention. A complete list of the squad can be found on B7.

Tiger leads
WGC field in Florida

On a leaderboard packed with golf’s biggest names, Tiger Woods took a two-shot lead into the weekend by tying his personal best with 17 birdies over two rounds on the Blue Monster at Doral.

Woods’ 13-under 131 leads Graeme McDowell by two and Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker by three.

Rory McIlroy showed signs of turning the corner with a 69, his first round under par this year.
