STERLING – Joyce M. Preston, 72, of Sterling, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford.

Joyce was born July 11, 1940, in Sterling, the daughter of Arthur J. and Myrtle (Modler) Fossett. She married James Preston on June 24, 1962, in Rock Falls. Joyce worked as an activities aid at Coventry Living Center for 12 years. She also ran a day care business from her home for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling.

Survivors include her husband, James R. “Jim” Preston; daughter, Jamie Preston; sons, Jeff Preston of Eldridge, Iowa, and Jerry (Brenda) Preston of Concord, N.C.; daughter, Jackie (Mark) Wolf of Franklin Grove; six grandchildren, Amie, Taylor, Matthew, Alison, Tucker, and Payton; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jo Ann Hines; and one grandson, Ryne.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with deacon Larry Zitkus officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sterling Youth Baseball or a charity of the donor’s choice.
