Panel considers hiring consultant
$31,400 would go toward leadership training, strategic plan, post-Crundwell
DIXON – The City Council is looking at spending $31,400 for a strategic plan and leadership training as it rebuilds in the aftermath of Rita Crundwell’s massive theft.
City commissioners placed on file Monday a government consulting agreement with Naperville company Sikich.
Shawn Ortgiesen, public works director and city engineer, said the company will take a holistic look at the city’s government and help it develop a strategic plan to achieve long-term goals.
After Crundwell stole nearly $54 million in city funds, its operating funds plummeted more than $19 million in the red with several infrastructure projects left to tackle.
The idea behind the strategic plan is the city needs to set its course, before it starts rebuilding.
If approved at the March 18 council meeting, the planning process will begin in early May, Ortgiesen said.
Mayor Jim Burke said citizen input will be part of the strategic planning sessions.
Also at Monday’s meeting, Dixon City Fire Chief Tim Shipman reported emergency medical calls rose in 2012 by 130 calls over the previous year, to 1,454.
The department received 252 fire calls. Of those, 72 were actual fires and 65 were false alarms, down from last year.
Andrew Brockwell, Dixon Petunia Festival president, said the festival committee is looking to move entertainment and the Taste Trail downtown, from their current location in Page Park. Brockwell also asked the council to grant the same relaxed alcohol rules as were in effect during the Mumford & Sons concert.
Brockwell will work with Ortgiesen and the city’s attorney to draw up a resolution. No action was taken Monday on his proposal.
