Melvin E. Hohn

STERLING – Melvin E. Hohn, 70, of Sterling, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at his home.

Melvin was born June 1, 1942, in Dimock, S.D., the son of Raymond and Ella (Kuster) Hohn. He served in the Navy. Melvin married Jo Ann Jacobsen on July 9, 1966, in Mitchell, S.D. He later married Beverly Pociecha in Mount Carroll. He was employed by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in the furnace department for 31 years, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed his cats, pheasant hunting, going to car shows, and following NASCAR. Melvin was the owner of Hohn Repair. He was a member of American Legion Post 902, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was Officer of the Day.

Survivors include his wife of Sterling; two daughters, Janet (Jeffrey) Tschosik of Dixon and Shari (Michael) Eddinger of Rock Falls; four stepsons, Matthew, Ronald, Michael, and David; three sisters, Edna (Kenneth) Gabel of Missouri Valley, Iowa, Donna (Rich) Steiner of Parkston, S.D., and Karen Mountain of Gillette, Wyo.; two brothers, Delbert Hohn and Dennis (GeGe) Hohn, both of Mitchell; four grandchildren, Evan, Nickolas, Bethany, and Natalie; nine stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
