Duane ‘Digger’ Hagemann

MOUNT MORRIS – Duane “Digger” Hagemann, 82, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford. 

Duane was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Freeport, the son of Herman and Ella (Avey) Hagemann. Duane graduated from Mount Morris High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. 

Duane married Nancy Lizer on Feb. 3, 1951, in Mount Morris. He worked in the finishing department at Kable Printing Co. in Mount Morris for 40 years, where he served as a supervisor for several years. He was a school bus driver for 10 years in the Mount Morris School District. 

Duane served as the Mount Morris Township assessor for 12 years. Duane was a member of the Mount Morris Brethren Church. He was a member of the Mount Morris American Legion Post 143 and the Oregon VFW Post 8739. He was also a member of the Mount Morris Moose Lodge 1551. Duane loved to golf and watching all sports.

His survivors include his wife, Nancy Hagemann of Mount Morris, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Arnold, Jerry, and Charles; and sister, Iola.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Finch Funeral Home, 405 E. Hitt in Mount Morris. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Morris Church of The Brethren, with the Rev. Virginia Haney officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Morris. 

Memorials may be made to Mount Morris Senior Center and/or Mount Morris Church of the Brethren.
