The Comets were unable to knock off mighty Winnebago, but a year after reaching the Elite 8 in 1A, Newman was bumped up to 2A and reached the Sweet 16.

"That's a tremendous accomplishment for these past 2 years," coach Sharp said.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
