Benefit planned Sunday for local family

Published: Saturday, March 2, 2013 1:15 a.m. CST

STERLING – A fundraiser Sunday will help with cancer-related expenses for a 53-year-old Rock Falls man.

The benefit for Randy Pursell will be from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday at Sterling Moose Family Center, 2601 E. Lincolnway.

Pursell was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in December. The cancer spread to his jaw and bones, and he recently broke a leg. He is unable to return to work. Randy’s daughter, Brandy Pegues, was 31 when she died in January from a rare form of ovarian cancer.

Proceeds from Sunday’s benefit will help Pursell with medical and other expenses, as well as remaining medical and burial expenses for Pegues. There is no cost to get in. Food will be $5 a person. A 50/50 raffle will take place, as will a silent auction.

Monetary donations can be made to the Pursell/Pegues fund at Midland States Bank, 941 First St., Rock Falls.

Call Sonya Dawson at 815-718-0268 for more information.

Rock Falls is considering a ban on leaf burning. Should the city finally take that step?
Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
