Theodore R. 'Ted' Pitzer Jr.

AMBOY – Theodore “Ted” Roosevelt Pitzer Jr., 83, of Amboy, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. He farmed “Ted Pitzer” Farms and was a loan officer for Production Credit and First National Bank in Amboy. 

Ted was born Dec. 18, 1929, in Dixon, the son of Theodore Roosevelt and Annabelle (Hartzell) Pitzer Sr. He married Shirley Robertson on Oct. 28, 1977. Ted served in the Air Force. He was a charter member of Amboy Area Co-op, was a 40-year member of the Franklin Grove Lions Club, member of the Illinois Pork Producers Association, and served as a director of PLN. He enjoyed hunting and farming and was an avid baseball pitcher.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Pitzer of Amboy; three daughters, Andrea Usherwood of Taos, N.M., Amy (Tim) Harper of Ashton, and Angie (John) Clayton of Mahomet; one stepdaughter, Sherrie (Pat McCaherty) Richard of Dixon; one stepson, David (Crickett) Robertson of Godfrey; one sister, Peggy Muetterties of Elgin; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Pitzer of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Doug Pitzer; one sister, Joanne Roman; one brother-in-law, James Muetterties; one niece; and one nephew.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m., with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., today at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bunyan Cocar, pastor of First Baptist Church in Dixon, officiating. Burial, with full military graveside honors accorded by the combined veterans organizations, will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

A memorial has been established.
