Fundraising volleyball tourney is April 13

A fundraising 3-on-3
volleyball tournament will take place April 13 at Erie High School.

A bake sale and other entertainment will also take place, with the proceeds benefitting Erie alumnus Jessica (Murphy) Olsen’s battle with metaplastic carcinoma, a rare form of breast cancer.

Daytona 500: best Fox race ratings in 5 years

Sunday’s Daytona 500 was the highest-rated and most-watched race for Fox in 5 years, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The race scored a 9.9/22 rating/share and averaged
16.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research, the most since 2008’s 10.2/20, 17.8 million viewers.

Realignment would split up Hawks, Wings

If reports of new NHL realignment come to pass, the Chicago Blackhawks will be separated from their Original Six rival Detroit Red Wings beginning next season.

According to ESPN, in the proposed alignment – which still needs approval from the NHLPA and NHL’s Board of Governors – the Hawks would remain in the Western Conference, while the Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets would shift to the Eastern Conference.

Bears likely to
tender DT Collins

The Chicago Bears are expected to tender an offer to defensive tackle Nate Collins, who is a restricted free agent.

The Bears have until March 12 to secure Collins with a tender that would be worth $1.33 million.

Collins, 25, was active for only nine games but got 241 snaps on defense. He was credited with 13 tackles, three quarterback pressures and one tackle for loss.

Seamonson fills out Illini coaching staff

Illinois football coach Tim Beckman completed his coaching staff by hiring Al Seamonson to oversee the outside linebackers.

Seamoson formerly coached at Central Florida, Maryland, Bowling Green State, The Citadel, Army and Wisconsin.

in Cubs debut

Edwin Jackson worked two scoreless innings in his Chicago Cubs debut, a 4-2 victory over Colorado at HoHoKam Stadium.

Jackson faced only eight hitters, allowing only two two-out singles in the first.

Pierzynski languishes against White Sox

A.J. Pierzynski endured four long innings behind the plate during the White Sox’s 14-8 victory over Texas and their former catcher.
